A Little Bit About Me…

I am Susie Wright, a Scottish illustrator and printmaker based in Edinburgh.

What do I do?

I create  illustrations of buildings and cities as well as detailed drawings of plants.

I make images inspired by cities and architecture, observing details and shapes that make up structures. I like compiling cityscapes from a range of elements to create a sense of a place.

I love drawing plants and flowers and trying to grow different ones in my garden to use in my drawings. I like starting with detailed observational approach which often ends up as more abstracted colourful prints or very detailed monotone images.

What do I enjoy?

I like drawing, gardening, making prints, going on walks, recording the world around me through observational drawing.

I enjoy location drawing to get ideas, it’s a good way to slowly observe spaces, changing light and temperatures influence the speed of drawing and make you quickly respond to the world around you in a unique way.

I like the challenge of trying capture the sense of a place in an image.

I also like working slowly and getting immersed in a project. Observing the minute details and making decisions thinking about simplifying elements so you get an effortless sense of something.
